Cattle epidemic
KANCHANPUR: Many cattle have been affected by foot and mouth disease in over a dozen VDCs in Kanchanpur. The disease has taken an epidemic shape in Pipladi, Jhalari, Krishnanagar, Sarakpur, Rampur, Bilasipur, Laxmipur, Raikabar, Bichawa, Rauteli Bithawa,Baise Parasan, Tribhuvanbasti, Shreepur, Suda and Daijee areas. According to the locals, goats, cows, buffaloes and pigs have been the worst hit. The farmers have borne a huge loss after the dozens of cattle, including calves, died of the disease.
Plea to shun violence
DHADING: Minister of State for Energy Chandra Singh Bhattarai urged the UCPN-Maoist to cooperate on the way to restoring peace by shunning the path of violence. Inaugurating the 50th establishment day of Kalika Secondary School in Dhola VDC-7 and releasing a souvenir on the occasion, Bhattarai said it was the responsibility of teachers and guardians to be sensitive towards the future of students. He opined that education invited peace and violence invited counter-violence.
Kailali offices reopen
DHANGADHI: The government offices in Kailali district resumed regular services as usual from Friday. The offices had not been able to function as usual for the past 19 days, due to the obstruction of the UCPN-Maoist calling on the government to address the Dudejhari incident. The closure was withdrawn after an agreement was reached between the party’s central leadership and government representatives , said Maoist district secretary, Hari Chaudhary.
Panel inspects border
KANCHANPUR: The parliamentary panel of the Constituent Assembly, Committee on International Relations and Human Rights has inspected the border area in Kanchanpur. The panel headed by Committee Chairperson Padmalal Biswokarma inspected the area of disputed Tanakpur dam, Bramhadev and Sharada barrage. The 13-member team, including border expert Buddhi Narayan Shrestha and eight CA members, observed the border area on Thursday and Friday.
Tusker fest’s turnover
CHITWAN: Financial transaction of Rs 10 million was recorded at the three-day elephant festival and international elephant race that took place in Sauraha last week. More than 100,000 tourists witnessed the festival. All the hotels in Sauraha had guests to their full capacity while some had to be adjusted at hotels in Bharatpur and Narayangadh.
