National meet of NC district treasurers concludes with 14-point declaration

POKHARA: The third national meet of the district treasurers of Nepali Congress concluded on Friday evening with the issuance of a 14-point declaration that focuses on ending disunity existing within the party.

The meet has demanded that responsibilities be assigned within the party in a capable and just manner without any factions and divisions. Through the 14-point declaration, the treasurers have put forth a request to the central working committee to integrate the party by ending conflicts and factions.

Making public the declaration, district treasurer of Kaski, Laxmi Pandey said that appointment of party officials -- including the treasures -- from the central level to local levels must be carried out through voting. The declaration states that opportunities should be provided to those who are capable, impartial and popular among people.

The treasurers have further requested the party leadership to organise protest programmes against acts of violence such as rape and murder, and corruption, that are increasing in the country, criticising the government led by Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli.

Further mentioned in the declaration is that funds would be collected from leaders and cadres to prevent the economic status of the party from declining at district levels. It is stated that Rs 1 million would be collected within six months in the party's emergency fund in each district to avoid collecting donations from businessmen and industrialists.

The third national meet of the district treasurers of Nepali Congress began on Thursday in Pokhara.

Present at the inauguration of the meet were President of NC Sher Bahadur Deuba, senior leader Ram Chandra Poudel, General Secretary Shashanka Koirala, central members, among others.
