National security policy draft endorsed

Kathmandu, May 6

The National Security Council today endorsed the draft of the national security policy. The policy will come into effect after Cabinet endorsement.

Today’s meeting of the council chaired by Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli endorsed the comprehensive policy on Nepal’s national security.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Defence Bhim Rawal told The Himalayan Times that the policy would be tabled in the Cabinet soon for approval. Rawal, a member of the council, had taken initiatives to draft the policy when he was the home minister in 2010.

“This is an integrated and comprehensive policy for the overall security of the country,” Rawal said about the policy. “It has incorporated all security issues ranging from human, food and health security to security of the natural resources.”
