KATHMANDU, OCTOBER 29

The Nepal Bar Association issued a press release calling on Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher JB Rana, who faces accusations of seeking to get his brother-in-law appointed a minister and delaying hearing of the case filed against appointments to the constitutional bodies, not to sit on the bench in the face of these controversies surrounding him.

The NBA had earlier sought CJ Rana's resignation.

The lawyers' umbrella body also announced protest programmes from Sunday.

The NBA said it would protest against the chief justice from 10:00am to 11:00am from October 31 to November 3 at the Supreme Court wearing black armbands.

On November 2, the Nepal Bar Association will also stage a sit-in at the SC and a hold a protest rally there. It said if the CJ did not resign within the next four days, it would launch a fresh protest against the CJ.
