NC-D CWC review meeting today
Unification major agenda
Kathmandu, September 1:
The Nepali Congress (D) has called a meeting of its Central Working Committee (CWC) tomorrow afternoon, with a review of unification and other political issues as its announced agenda.
The meeting is being considered a crucial one, given its timing and the issues confronting the leadership while the nation is hurtling towards constituent assembly elections.
The importance of the meeting lies in the fact that it is being convened hot on the heels of the CWC meeting of the NC, which has reviewed the progress recorded by the task force in its own way.
Its importance also lies in the fact that it has been called following a meeting between NC president Girija Prasad Koirala and NC (D) president Sher Bahadur Deuba on Wednesday, amid increased possibility of unification.
“The upcoming meeting is of course a crucial one. When it comes to the agenda, much will depend on what unfolds until the last moment,” said NC (D) general secretary Bimalendra Nidhi.
He said this when asked about the agenda of the CWC meeting in the wake of the last meeting between NC (D) president Sher Bahadur Deuba and NC president and Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala on unification.
He dropped hints that the last meeting between Koirala and Deuba has indeed been “fruitful” and that the former was now obliged to give a new term of reference to the task force, increasing the possibility of unification.
But, NC leader Dr Shekhar Koirala, a close confidante of Prime Minister Koirala, who was present during the same meeting, however, refrained from saying that there has been any such development.
