KATHMANDU, MARCH 15

Nepali Congress has decided to support Janata Samajwadi Party-Nepal candidate Ram Sahay Prasad Yadav in the vice-presidential election.

A meeting of the central executive committee of the party held today at the party central office in Sanepa decided to this effect.

"According to Article 67, Article 69 and Article 70 of the Constitution of Nepal, the meeting decided to support JSP-N Central Executive Committee member Yadav, who is a joint candidate for the post of vice-president of the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal," said Spokesperson of the party Prakash Sharan Mahat.

"With this, the MPs and valid members of the provincial assembly have been instructed to support Ram Sahay Prasad Yadav."

He informed that it was decided to instruct members of the Federal Parliament and members of the Provincial Assembly to support Yadav for the post of vice-president. He further said, "As far as direct candidacy for member of the House of Representatives in Chitwan Constituency No 2 April 23 by-election is concerned, according to Article 32 (8) of the party constitution, the relevant bodies of the party should propose and recommend the name of the candidate."

"There was no discussion on the government's agenda in the meeting. The government will be expanded only after Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal takes the vote of confidence by March 20," Spokesperson Mahat said. Likewise, today's meeting thanked all the parties and MPs who had played a crucial role in electing Ramchandra Paudel as president and wished him a successful tenure.
