NC Janajati, Madhesi lawmakers float amendment proposal

After the party decided not to register the amendment bill, Janajati and Madhesi Constituent Assembly (CA) members of the ruling Nepali Congress today registered their separate amendment proposal on the revised draft of new constitution at the parliamentary party.

Nagendra Kumar, who is also the chairman of Nepal Federation of Indigenous Nationalities (NEFIN), said 45 indigenous CA members have registered their nine-point amendment proposal on the draft constitution through Chief Whip Chin Kaji Shrestha.

According to Kumal, they have demanded a separate article ensuring the rights of indigenous nationalities, proportional representation of indigenous nationalities in all organs of the state, a separate commission for indigenous nationalities and secularism.

According to Farmullah Mansur, available 43 CA members of the party today handed over the amendment proposal to parliamentary party leader Sushil Koirala.

Meanwhile, UML Janajati and Madhesi CA members have already handed over their amendment proposals to Chief Whip Agni Kharel yesterday.

UML CA member and General Secretary of NEFIN Pemba Gurung Bhote said 53 CA members had jointly handed over their amendment proposal and Chief Whip Kharel has assured them to invite the concerned stakeholders for discussions on Saturday.Mansur said the major four major parties would discuss the amendment bills and then register them only after forging consensus on Saturday.
