BIRATNAGAR, JANUARY 30

Central member of the ruling Nepali Congress Shekhar Koirala has stressed the need to conduct the local level elections on time.

The elections should not be deferred under any pretext, he said while talking to mediapersons this morning at his private residence in Biratnagar.

He suggested that the government should directly talk with the Election Commission regarding the matter instead of postponing the election by amending acts and laws. "It is better for the government to fix the election date after holding discussion with the government on the matter instead of talking with coalition parties."

In another context, the leader suggested that the party leadership should nominate senior leaders who lost in the recently-held party's 14th General Convention as party central members.

Insisting that Province 1 should be named through consensus, he viewed that ministries had been split and the increased Cabinet size would impact good governance of the provincial government.
