DHANGADI, OCTOBER 23

Senior Nepali Congress leader Ramchandra Paudel has sought repeat party conventions in Dadeldhura citing 'controversies' surrounding the earlier held ones.

"Apparently, there has been fraud in the distribution of party's active memberships, and again the names submitted by the investigation committee to the election office too have been changed. This is a grave crime. The party's election must be fair," said Paudel. He was speaking to journalists at Geta Airport when he had arrived there for a visit of the flood and landslide-affected areas of the province.

"In Dadeldhura, the party convention was held by keeping the party's working committee, including its district president out. Any convention held in this way is obviously incomplete, hence we need repeat conventions there," Poudel argued.

NC Dadeldhura president Karna Bahadur Malla and his group has been asking the party leadership to fix a new date for repeat ward and local level conventions accusing party President Sher Bahadur Deuba of holding conventions unilaterally amidst the dispute related to the active membership of the party in the district.

On a different note, Paudel expressed confidence that the party general convention would be held soon. "The current tenure of our party has expired, so I have urged the president to hold the convention soon by forming a working committee," he said.

Paudel expressed sadness over the damage caused by the recent floods and landslide in the province and said he would request the government to provide relief to the farmers, who have suffered most from the weather disasters.
