KATHMANDU, DECEMBER 21

Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba has blamed the electoral system for the formation of an alliance government.

He argues that the electoral system, while ensuring inclusion and proportional representation, impedes the formation of a single-party majority.

Deuba made it clear that the present electoral system hinders parties from forming a single-party majority government, leaving no option but to forge coalitions. He expressed this view during the first Madhes convention of the party that kicked off on Thursday.

He emphasized the unity within the party to strengthen the new system, stating that party building must be prioritized. Deuba argued that once the party is robust, the system becomes strong.

The NC President further asserted that the NC and Madhes must be strong to fend off assaults on recent achievements, such as federalism and inclusion.

During the occasion, Vice President of the party and Defense Minister Purna Bahadur Khadka assured that the complaints of the Madhes province government on the enforcement of federalism would be addressed soon. He reminded that although NC had presented a proposal on constitution amendment to address the issues of Madhes-centric parties, other parties did not cooperate with this bid.

Another Vice President of the party and Law Minister Dhan Raj Gurung informed that the process to make laws required to enforce federalism had begun.

General Secretary Thapa viewed, "It is time to act rather than speak to pay heed to people's hopes and frustration," expressing the responsibility of the NC to restore people's faith in governance, given the recent issues of bad governance.

Moreover, another General Secretary, Bishwo Prakash Sharma, argued that once Madhes smiles, the entire country smiles.

Various other leaders addressed the program.
