NC should not join new govt, says Shekhar

Biratnagar, April 19:

Nepali Congress (NC) central member Dr Shekhar Koirala today said there would be no meaning for the NC in joining the next government if the Maoists did not correct their behaviour.

Speaking at a programme organised by the Tarun Youth Group at Bargachhi of Morang-7, Koirala said, “The Maoists should immediately dissolve the Young Communist League, return the seized land and property and implement the past accords reached with the government.”

“The Maoists should put into practice their commitments to implement these things at the earliest,” he said. He added, “The process of making a new constitution is more important than NC joining or not joining the new government.”

“Though the Maoists have emerged as the largest party after the polls, the process of making a new constitution is yet to be accomplished,” he said. He said the Nepali Congress would play an important role in drafting the new constitution as per people’s wishes.

The NC would push for the inclusion and implementation of its agenda mentioned in the election manifesto in the new constitution and new Nepal, he said.

“Though the Nepali Congress has been defeated in the polls, NC cadres should not be depressed. Irrespective of the election results, the NC has to play a vital role in making the new constitution,” he said.
