NC to draft statute if deadline not met, says Koirala
Pokhara, November 30:
President of the Nepali Congress and former prime minister Girija Prasad Koirala has said his party would shoulder the task of writing the new constitution if the constituent assembly failed to meet the deadline to do so.
Speaking at a press conference organised by the Press Union Kaski here today, Koirala said, “The NC would complete the task of writing the new constitution and present it to the public if the Maoists and other parties in the government failed to finalise it in due time.” He said accorded top priority to the writing of new constitution and establishing peace in accordance with the people’s aspirations. He accused the Maoists of breaching all understandings, alliances and unity pacts, and added that a new agreement with them was essential. He said the Maoists should dissolve the YCL before seeking the integration of the Maoist combatants in Nepal Army.
Reiterating that the Maoists flouted all past agreements with the parties, he urged the international community to look at them with suspicion, as they continued holding the seized land and assets, and indulging in atrocities. Saying that the government’s 100 days in office was a complete fiasco, he said his party had been played the role of a responsible opposition party.
