NC won’t go against interim constitution: NC Veep
Kavre, November 3:
Vice-president of the Nepali Congress Prakash Man Singh today said that his party would follow to the letter and spirit of the interim constitution and not deviate a fraction from it.
Talking to reporters after a Deepawali goodwill function organised by the Nepal Tarun Dal, the youth wing of the party, in Banepa, Singh said the NC went in favour of a democratic republic and mixed representation for CA polls according to mandate of the interim constitution. “NC will not flout the constitution, no matter how much the other parties may try to sway it from its stance,” said Singh.
Stating that there was no consensus on Maoist proposals for early republic and all-out proportional electoral system, Singh said, “NC does not want fully proportional polls even though it believes in representation of all sides in the constituent assembly.”
Criticizing the Maoist demand for declaring the country a republic before the CA polls, Singh asked, “Will the people forgive the parties if the demand is met now?” Saying that the parliament’s decision would be final, he urged the Maoists not to make unreasonable demands.
