Biratnagar, February 26

The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA), Biratnagar unit has taken action against 21 consumers for pilfering power.

Some of them had hooked direct transmission live wires to electrify their homes while the others had broken the kilowatt-hour meter seal installed in their homes. The wrong-doers were identified after the launching of the power leakage control programme by the NEA, Biratnagar, in the period of six moths. Residents of Kadmaha, Sorabhag, Dainiya, Rangeli and Amahibariyati VDCs including some parts of Biratnagar sub-metropolitan city were involved in power pilfering.

According to Kailash Prasad Atal, the chief of NEA in Biratnagar, the power leakage control programme has been successful in discouraging people from the illegal act. Last year there was 13.07 per cent power leakage through illegal hooking and breaking seals which has decreased sharply this year.
