NEFIN to draft model for new Nepal

Kathmandu, February 18:

Nepal Federation of Indigenous Nationalities (NEFIN), the umbrella organisation of Nepal’s ethnic people, is making preparations to draft a model for the restructuring of the state. The NEFIN has been advocating restructuring of the state on the basis of ethnicity, language and region. But it has not come up with a detailed draft on restructuring of the state though the constituent assembly polls are round the corner.

“We will draft a model of a new Nepal after brainstorming with experts,” said Ram Bahadur Thapa, general secretary of the NEFIN. The meeting of the Federal Council of NEFIN, which was held a month ago, had decided to draft a model of a new Nepal through a consensus among ethnic people.

Meanwhile, Thapa said the NEFIN is observing how political parties choose candidates for the polls. “We will see how parties implement the agreement made with NEFIN and decide what to do next,” he said, claiming that the federation will take to the streets if the parties fail to select the candidates based on the agreement made with them.
