Nembang rues delay in statute-making

Kathmandu, September 9:

Chairman of the Constituent Assembly Subas Nembang today said process for drafting a new constitution was being delayed, as the political parties were involved in other activities than drafting the constitution.

Stating that the CA would issue its Regulation next week, Nembang hoped that it might help expedite the constitution-drafting process.

He also said extending the tenure of the Constituent Assembly would not be good as the CA is supposed to draft the constitution within two years. He was speaking at a programme jointly organised by the Constitutional Lawyers’ Forum and Constituent Assembly Interaction Club.

CA members Nilamber Acharya and Pasang Sherpa claimed that extending the tenure of CA even by a single day would be unconstitutional.

However, lawyer turned CA members Agni Kharel and Radehshyam Adhikari claimed that it would not be unconstitutional even if the Constituent Assembly could not draft the constitution on time and its tenure was extended the life of the body.
