Nembang stresses on unity to meet statute deadline
Kathmandu, January 8:
Constituent Assembly Chairperson Subas Chandra Nembang today urged all the political parties to work unitedly for achieving the ultimate goal of writing the new constitution in the stipulated time.
Speaking at a felicitation programme organised by Private and Boarding Schools’ Organization
Nepal, Kathmandu to mark its 19th establishment day, Nembang said, “We are in the middle of the entire process of constitution building. ad. All the political parties need to join hands to publicise the new constitution no later than May 28, 2010.”
Nembang said, “The parties should rise above their personal biases and grievances in order
to draft the new constitution, guaranteeing the future of Nepal and its people.”
Though top leaders of various political parties, including Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, were invited for a felicitation of their contribution to establish Nepal as a republic, only Subash
Nembang, CPN-ML general secretary CP Mainali, CPN-Unity-Centre general secretary Narayan Kaji Shrestha, NC central committee member Ram Saran Mahat presented themselves at the programme.
On the occasion, leaders from other political parties also expressed their solidarity towards the need of unity for drafting the constitution.
A note forwarded by NC president Girija Prasad Koirala strongly opposed the government’s decision to charge five per cent education service tax to private institutions. “Imposing EST on private education sector robs students of their right to education,” read the note.
Dr Ram Sharan Mahat said, “If the private education sector is shut down, millions in Nepali currency will go abroad.”
Mahat further said, “Ensuring quality education is a major responsibility of the government. Rather than levying tax and threatening to nationalise private education, which is quite impossible, the government should formulate rules to regulate private education.”
