NEOC asks govt to improve security

Kathmandu, April 5:

The National Election Observation Committee (NEOC) today urged the government to improve the deteriorating law and order situation by penalising those involved in anti-election activities in the run-up to the CA polls.

Issuing a press release today, the NEOC also urged all political forces and the stakeholders to ensure the fundamental right of people to participate in peaceful, free and fair CA election by creating an environment conducive for polls, and check all kinds of anti-election activities. “Different anti-election activities and violence are on in different parts of the country and may jeopardise free, fair and peaceful election,” states the NEOC release.

It adds that a spate of violence, killing and clashes do not portend well in the run-up to the polls. “They are indeed deplorable and deserve high condemnation. The ongoing violence and war of words has disappointed the people. It is also certain that if such incidents and events continued, they could possibly pose a serious threat to the fairness and impartiality of the CA election,” the release said.
