Govt nominates 21ambassadors to head Nepali missions abroad

KATHMANDU: The government on Tuesday decided to appoint Nepal's ambassadors in 21 diplomatic missions abroad.

A meeting of the Cabinet, held at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, took decision to recommend names to head the Nepali missions in 21 different countries.

As many as 21 diplomatic outposts were either headless or the term of ambassadors leading them was about to end.

The nominees will have to undergo a parliamentary hearing before the Minister of Foreign Affairs sends their names to the countries concerned for an agreemo.

The President will formally appoint the ambassadors after the agreemo comes.

The Nepal's embassies in 11 different countries including the United Kingodom, Germany, Brazil, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman, Bahrain, Sri Lanka, Japan and Bangladesh are currently without ambassadors, while the term of ambassadors in China, South Korea, UAE, Israel, Myanmar, Pakistan, Australia, Denmark, Belgium and Russia was ending.

Nepal has a total of 35 diplomatic outposts, including 30 embassies, two permanent missions and three consul missions.
