Nepal finally able to cherish stable govt, says Dahal

Kathmandu, October 26

Nepal Communist Party (NCP) Co-chairperson Pushpa Kamal Dahal today said Nepal was finally able to cherish a prospect of stable government — essential for development — after decades of political instability and painful transition.

He said having thus accomplished a political process, the government’s focus was now on people’s freedom — freedom from poverty and underdevelopment; freedom from hardships of deprived living; freedom from worry about basic needs; freedom to pursue the greater goals of life.

“And to this end, our government is working to realise the vision of ‘prosperous Nepal, happy Nepalis’. We have prioritised certain sectors in our development narrative as well as policy and programmes,” he said addressing the fifth India Ideas Conclave organised by India Foundation today in New Delhi.

“We are fully aware that political gains can only be sustained if we are able to create within a short span of time a robust and healthy economic foundation. We are cognisant of our resource limitations and hence are mindful of the need for the most judicious allocation of scarce resources.”

Dahal thanked neighbours and friends around the world for their support to Nepal’s development endeavor, and expressed hope that such support would continue. “I have no doubt, you may all agree with me that a peaceful and prosperous Nepal can only contribute to peace, stability and prosperity in the region and beyond,” he said.

Stating that Nepal and India had an immemorial history of harmonious co-existence, he said the two countries were not only neighbours, but also close friends.
