Nepal for SPA-Maoist unity

Kathmandu, July 23 :

CPN-UML General Secretary Madhav Kumar Nepal today said that the seven- party alliance and the Maoists must move ahead united reaching still better understanding among themselves and not giving any space to the reactionary forces to play up on their differences.

Nepal was addressing a function held to observe the Pushpa Lal Memorial Day today at Champadevi. Others too appreciated the role played by the Late Pushpa Lal in heralding political changes. Reminding that the alliance and the Maoist had an immense opportunity to lead the nation towards prosperity, Nepal added that the institution of monarchy had lost its utility.

Nepal also stressed the need on the part of the political parties to come up with their respective stance on arms management, interim constitution, an alternative to the parliament and an election to a constituent assembly.

Nepali Congress General Secretary Ram Chandra Poudel said that democracy has now become a common agenda of all the political forces and they should move ahead together to institutionalise the achievement of the mass movement.

UML leader Jhala Nath Khanal, who is president of Pushpa Lal Memorial Foundation, said that

the issues of arms management, interim statute, interim government, interim parliament and election to constituent assembly could be easily addressed if the seven-party alliance and the Maoists developed better understanding based on common agenda.
