Nepal for talks to resolve crisis in Terai

Birgunj, January 20:

CPN (UML) general secretary Madhav Kumar Nepal today said the government should hold dialogue with Janatantrik Terai Mukti Morcha (JTMM) to solve their problems.

Speaking at a press conference organised by Parsa chapter of Press Chautari Nepal in Birgunj today, Nepal said, “I have information that JTMM is not against constituent assembly polls,” Nepal said.

UML general secretary Nepal also demanded to make public the Rayamajhi Commission report.

He emphasised on the need to foil the attempts by regressive forces to obstruct constituent assembly polls.

Stating that shortcomings of the interim constitution will be corrected, Nepal said CPN (UML)wanted to decide on monarchy through referendum.

Meanwhile, speaking at an interaction on Status of Muslim community in restructuring of state, organised by Muslim Ittehad Organisation in Birgunj today, Nepal said, “Muslim community had played a vital role during Jana Andolan-II.”

General secretary of Ittehad Organisation, Mahamud Alam, Purusottam Poudel of CPN (UML), Nagendra Chaudhari, Chiranjivi Acharya and MP Dr Bansidhar Mishra also expressed their views.

Issuing a press statement in Kathmandu today, CPN-UML expressed serious concern over the Siraha incident in which 17-year-old Ramesh Mahato was shot dead when the Maoist cadres and Madhesi Janaadhikar Forum clashed yesterday.

“It is a matter of serious concern that such violent activities are taking place when the country is collectively moving towards constituent assembly elections,” said UML standing committee member Amrit Kumar Bohara in a statement.

He stated that it was quite natural to put forth demands in democracy but they should be done in a peaceful manner. He also asked the government to take an initiative to start a dialogue with the Terai Jantantrik Mukti Morcha.
