Nepal Geological Society calls for minimising risk posed by quakes
KATHMANDU: Nepal Geological Society has advised for carrying out geological study of the land surface and building quake-resistant infrastructure to remain safe from earthquakes.
Society's Chairman Kabi Poudel, in a statement, on Wednesday noted that the risk of earthquake remains in Gorkha and Dolakha districts among other areas, on the basis of national and international studies held after the Gorkha earthquake.
The stability of building structures built without fact based geo-technical study on boulders, shape of soil, depth, and underground water cannot be trusted, it is stated.
Insisting that it is the government's responsibility to disseminate factual information on earthquake to minimise its risk, the Society has called for lending high priority for study and research of geological conditions.
The Society also demanded that the government take steps for formation of an influential body and organisational structure for research and study to minimise the impact of earthquakes in Nepal.
