Nepal, India discuss trade

Jhapa, September 19:

Officials of Nepal and India held discussion on the problems faced while exporting Nepali agro-products to India.

The talks focused on the lengthy process of quarantine the Nepali products have to undergo for entrance into India.

The Nepali delegation is led by joint secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives, Dr KB Shrestha and the Indian team was led by joint secretary of the Indian Agriculture Ministry Ashish Bahuguna.

The teams also inspected the customs points along the Nepal-India border.

Nepali businessmen told the delegations about the problem that exportable Nepali agricultural goods have to undergo quarantine tests for which samples have to be sent to Kolkata and that their quality might be destroyed while being transported to the laboratory.

They also demanded setting up of laboratory at the bordering area to reduce cost and time for tests.
