KATHMANDU, MARCH 21

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has stated that Nepal has made gradual progress in the treatment and care of kidney diseases.

Speaking at the inauguration of the fifth Conference of the Nepal Society of Nephrology in Kathmandu on Friday, the Prime Minister expressed optimism that Nepal would soon be able to provide quality kidney care services at an affordable cost.

He emphasized the need to make the 'Healthy Nepal' campaign a success by raising health awareness and reducing poverty.

PM Oli, who has undergone two kidney transplants, recalled that he had to travel to India for his first transplant due to the lack of facilities in Nepal. However, he expressed pride in having been able to undergo his second transplant within the country while serving as Prime Minister.

He further stated that the conference's conclusions would be valuable for shaping Nepal's health policies and assured government support for kidney health initiatives.

At the event, Society President Prof. Dr. Dibya Singh Shah presented on the challenges of kidney diseases in South Asia and ongoing efforts for their prevention.
