Nepal stresses action to lift LDCs out of poverty

KATHMANDU:  Nepal's Minister for Commerce Jayanta Chand stressed the need for action to lift Least Developed Countries (LDCs) out of the poverty, hunger and malnutrition, at meeting of the LDCs in Nairobi of Kenya on Saturday.

During the meeting, on behalf of the Government of Nepal, Minister Chand underscored the need for strengthening productive capacity and diversifying the economy and trade to realise the ultimate objectives of the Istanbul Program of Action (IPoA) and the 2030 agenda for Sustainable Development and SDGs.

Minister Chand also emphasised for full and faithful implementation of the Doha development agenda, Bali and Nairobi Ministerial declarations keeping the interests of the LDCs at the centre.

Similarly, he also attended a meeting of the Land Locked Developing Countries (LLDCs) held in Nairobi the same day.

Recalling the 5th Ministerial meeting of the LLDC held in Geneva last month, Minister Chand expressed his confidence that the meeting would further enhance the solidarity and unity in advancing the common agenda of the LLDCs.

He emphasised the need to overcome the structural constraints and enhance productive capacity of the LLDCs by putting additional efforts in the construction of transport, transit and trade infrastructures.
