Evaluate ministers and reform govt, UML politburo to PM Oli

KATHMANDU: The politburo of ruling CPN-UML on Wednesday heard that Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli should evaluate the performance of ministers, of the CPN-UML as well as other coalition allies, and reform the government if need be.

As many as 10 politburo members of the party aired their views on the political report that party Chairman Oli presented before the politburo meeting yesterday.

Party Vice-Chairman Yubaraj Gyawali, Deputy General Secretary Ghanashyam Bhusal, politburo members Raghuji Pant, Beduram Bhusal, Bijaya Paudel, Shreemaya Thakali, Nagendra Chaudhary, Gangalal Shrestha, Gorakh Bogati and Jagannath Khatiwada took part in today's deliberations.

All of the speakers supported the government's foreign policy, while most of them were critical of the government's poor performance and delivery as well as Oli's modus operandi as the party chairman.

According to Pant, he asked Chairman Oli to do the needful to make the ministers in the ruling coalition responsible and evaluate their performance and reform the government such that it can deliver to the people.

Criticising the approach of leaders of other coalition allies, including UCPN-Maoist and Rastriya Prajatantra Party-Nepal, Pant demanded that the performance of their ministers as well as CPN-UML be evaluated. "Ministers should be either told to deliver or replaced," he said.

Moreover, voices were raised that chairman should take an initiation to end factionalism himself and keep the party unified. For that, a suggestion was offered to acknowledge the calibre and past performance of the leaders and give them responsibilities accordingly.

Pant opined that though the gatirodh ended along with the end of Indian blockade and Prime Minister Oli's state visit to India the matirodh (contradictions with India) still existed as India's approach to deal with Nepal has not been changed.

Prime Minister and Chairman Oli should take an initiation to building up national consensus to check the Indian interference and improve relations with India simultaneously, Pant said in the meeting.
