Nepal to host world rights bodies’ meet

Nepal is all set to host the three-day eight annual meeting of Asia Pacific Forum of National Human Rights Institutions from February 16.

The meeting is to discuss on issues including human rights institutions, rule of law, anti-terrorism measures, National Human Rights Commission of Nepal (NHRC) among others.

Nain Bahadur Khatri, the NHRC chairman informed this at a press meet organised by the commission here yesterday.

Australia, Fiji, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Mongolia, Nepal, New Zealand, the Philippines, Republic of Korea, Sri Lanka and Thailand are the members of the forum established in 1996 in accordance with the United Nations principles on the national institutions also known as the Paris Principles. The forum is an autonomous organisation working for the development of national institution to protect and promote human rights.

"Annual meeting of the forum is the largest and most comprehensive regular human rights meeting in the Asia Pacific region and is a mechanism for promoting human rights and related issues," he said.
