Nepalgunj folk rooting for peace, harmony

Nepalgunj, September 24:

People from all religious communities are making efforts to maintain peace and harmony in Nepalgunj. Local clerics, members of the civil society, representatives of the eight parties and businessmen are holding discussions and meetings every day.

Muslims are chanting prayers on the roads and conducting patrols in villages and urban

areas at night.

Muslims are reading Namaj (prayer) at the Dhambojhi chowk and urging people not to be involved in activities that may create unrest.

Mohamad Phasal Ansari said Hindu, Muslim and Sikh people have been urged to maintain communal harmony.

Chief of the Bageshwori Temple, Mahantha Chandranath Yogi, called on police not to act as onlookers whenever there is rioting.

A Sikh priest, Surendar Singh, said, “We have been urging all to maintain harmony.”

Meanwhile, a gathering was organised to maintain communal harmony.

Vice-president of the Banke FNJ Jhalak Gaire urged the media to help maintain harmony.

Urging security men to be on high alert, a former mayor of the Nepalgunj municipality, Dhawal Shumsher Rana, said, “Riots make break out if police fail to act during tense situations.”
