Nepali Army Day was observed on Tuesday on the occasion of Mahashivaratri The Nepali Army has been observing Mahashivaratri as Army Day since 1991.
President Bidhya Devi Bhandari attended the special function organised at the Army Pavilion in Tundikhel. On the occasion, President Bhandari laid a wreath at the Army Memorial there and received a guard of honour.
President Bhandari is also the Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Nepali Army. . She also handed over prizes to army personnel who won various sports events. NA soldiers opened celebratory rifle and artillery fire as part of the function.
Vice-president Nanda Bahadur Pun, Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, Acting Chief Justice Deepak Kumar Karki, Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota, and National Assembly Chairman Ganesh Prasad Timilsina also attended the event.
