KATHMANDU, JULY 8
Two men have been arrested with 166 kilograms of marijuana from the core area of Parsa National Park, the Nepal Army said.
A patrol team from the Sabuj Battalion deployed from Pratappur Security Post detained the suspects near Bagai Khola in the Chure region of Makawanpur after noticing suspicious activity during a routine patrol on Monday.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Bikram Sintan, 54, and Gokarna Moktan, 48, both residents of Raksirang Rural Municipality-3 in Makawanpur.
The Army said the seized marijuana and the two suspects were handed over to the Area Police Office, Manahari, in the presence of national park officials for further investigation and legal action.
Parsa National Park, which spans Makawanpur, Bara and Parsa districts, has long been monitored by security agencies because its dense forests and rugged terrain are vulnerable to illegal activities, including the trafficking of narcotics.
