Nepali Army team visits area at high risk of landslide
Khotang, August 12
A Nepali Army team today took stock of more than 50 households, which were reportedly at high risk of landslides at Dadmi of Patheka- 7, Khotang.
Battalion Chief of Shergan Mudhe Barrack, Madan Neupane, said they visited the area after there were reports that the houses were at high risk of landslides. “The Hattimudhe cliff at the confluence of Patheka 7 and 9 is not likely to fall on the human settlement unless there is a powerful earthquake or heavy rainfall continues for long, otherwise there is nothing to worry about for now,” he said.
The cliff got split during the 1934 powerful earthquake. Locals of the area have been spending sleepless nights due to the fear of unexpected landslides, said Tanka Bahadur Rai, a teacher at a local school.
Lal Kiran Primary School in the area is also at risk. “No new house has been built in the locality fearing landslides for the past two decades,” said Rai.
