Nepali Congress, Dadeldhura expresses support for Dr Govinda KC

DADELDHURA: The main opposition Nepali Congress, Dadeldhura district chapter, has expressed its support for Dr Govinda KC on his second day of hunger strike, Tuesday.

A team led by president of Nepali Congress, Dadeldhura and member of Sudurpaschim provincial assembly Karna Bahadur Malla expressed their support, in writing, in favour of the demands put forth by the senior orthopaedic surgeon.

NC leader Malla stated that Dr KC's demands are supported and backed by the party's district chapter at a time when the present government has fallen prey to the medical mafia.

Malla added that he had himself met with various authorities in connection to there being a lack of doctors for the past two months in the seven hilly districts of Sudurpaschim Province. In such a scenario, Dr KC carrying out his hunger strike from one such district has received the party's support, said district president Malla.

Nepali Congress, Dadeldhura has warned of protest in support of the senior doctor if the government doesn't immediately address his long-standing demands. The district chapter of the party has accused the government of inaction when private medical institutions in the country are charging exorbitant fees from students.

Meanwhile, health of the protesting doctor is normal, stated Dadeldhura Hospital.

Dr Govinda KC began his 17th hunger strike in Dadeldhura district yesterday. The senior doctor had warned to stage a fresh hunger strike if his seven-point demands were not met by the government, after arriving in Charikot of Dolakha district, on October 15. Organising a press meet there, Dr KC had given an ultimatum to the government to address his demands by October 25.
