Nepali Congress for PLA re-verification

KATHMANDU: A team of 28 lawmakers of the Nepali Congress today handed over a memorandum to the chief of United Nations Mission in Nepal (UNMIN) Karin Landgren demanding re-verification of the Maoist combatants.

They accused UNMIN of bias while verifying PLA fighters. They also criticised UNMIN of not being able to make the verification as per the NC’s demand of ‘one weapon one combatant’. They argued that the real number of the combatants was around 4,000 instead of 19,000 as stated in the controversial videotape of Maoist chairman Prachanda. Lawmakers, including Jagadishwor Narsingh KC and Nabindra Raj Joshi, had handed over the memorandum to Landgren. In response, the UNMIN chief said it had made the verification on the basis of political consensus.
