Nepali Congress secures two seats in Syangja

Maoist wins in Jajarkot-1

Syangja/Jajarkot, April 13:

The Nepali Congress secured two seats, while the CPN-UML won one seat in the Constitution Assembly (CA) election in Syangja district, which has three constituencies.

Communist Party of Nepal-UML’s Hitkaji Gurung won in constituency 1, securing 18,101 votes, while Nepali Congress’ Kamal Prasad Pangeni trailed him, securing 16,394 votes. Pangeni

was followed by Maoist candidate Dipak Thapa, who fetched 12,733 votes.

In constituency-2, Nepali Congress vice-president Gopal Man Shrestha won, securing 17,347 votes. CPN-UML’s Chakra Bahadur Parajuli and Maoist candidate Dipa Bhusal trailed him, securing 12,173 and 11,824 votes, respectively. Mohan Prasad Pandey of the Nepali Congress emerged winner in constituency-3, securing 18,419 votes while his

rival Mukti Pathak of the UML secured 18,257 votes. CPN-Maoist’s Khim Bahadur Bishwokarma secured 11,136 votes.

According to the Syangja district election office, there are 2,95,442 voters in Syangja district and 60 per cent of the voters cast votes. A total of 370 polling stations were established in 185 places of the district while 35 candidates of 14 political parties were in the poll-fray.

Meanwhile, the CPN-Maoist has won the election with a wide margin in constituency-1 of the hilly district of Jajarkot.

Maoist’s Kali Bahadur Malla won the election securing 19,009 votes, while his rival, CPN-UML’s Rita Rawal, secured just 6,223 votes. Nepali Congress candidate Chinta Kumari Wagle trailed with 5,838 votes. After being elected from constituency-1, Malla said he would strictly follow people’s mandate and party’s manifesto.

He said he would stand for ethnic groups and castes of people living in remote and backward districts like Jajarkot.

According to the Jajarkot district election office, counting of votes in constituency-2 of the district began from 12 noon today. The CPN-Maoist is in the forefront, it said.
