Nepali makes record in paragliding from Europe's highest mountain
POKHARA: Nepali paraglider Sanobabu Sunuwar has made a history by doing a paragliding from the highest mountain of Europe, Mt Elbrus.
Sunuwar, who has a credit to his name for paragliding from the highest mountain in the world, Mt Everest to the sea level, made the fresh record by doing a tandem flight from the 5642-metre high mountain on July 27.
Commenting on his feat, Sunuwar said he had overwhelmed by various messages of congratulations and best wishes from home and abroad.
"Whatever I have done has not only helped me a new record for myself, but also been a subject of glory for the country and people here," said the paraglider, who also expected a boost in domestic tourism industry from his feat.
Sunuwar from Sorak VDC of Syangja has a dream to do paragliding from the highest mountains of all seven continents.
"Though high altitude, cold and adverse weather were posing a challenge, I could make it," said the paraglider, who had to wait for five days from the final camp at 3,800 metres before paragliding.
Meanwhile, Sunuwar refused that he did it for the sake of some competition. "It is no competition. There is already a record of solo paragliding and I wanted to do something different; that is all."
"My success is historical and it has been a victory for the entire Nepali people," he said over phone upon his return to Nepal from Europe on Tuesday.
Earlier, Sunuwar had made a record by doing paragliding from the highest mountain of Africa, Mt Kilimanjaro (5,892 m), after his record paragliding from the Mt Everest.

Following the tandem flight from the Mt Everest, he had also embarked on a kayak journey to Bay of Bengal via the Ganges.
