Nepali youth bags prestigious UN award
KATHMANDU: Sonika Manandhar from Nepal has bagged the prestigious award Young Champions of the Earth Prize for Asia & the Pacific.
Young Champions of the Earth is a prestigious award received by seven inspiring environmentalists who have the potential to make a positive environmental impact. Awarded by the United Nations Environment Programme, this year, Manandhar was among the seven winners from various regions who won the award.
Manandhar, who is the co-founder and the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of Aeloi Technologies and a creator of Green Energy Mobility (GEM), was applauded for her using big data to make electric transport more efficient and accessible.
Through her initiative "Green Energy Mobility", Manandhar aims to promote Safa Tempos, a popular electric vehicle in Nepal to be used as an alternative to private vehicles as a way to fight against climate change.
