Network business racketeer arrested after defrauding 20 people of Rs 1.64mln

KATHMANDU: Police on Friday arrested a man on the charge of swindling 20 persons out of Rs 1.64 million promising good salaries.

The arrestee has been identified as Lok Bahadur Magar (25), aka 'Lokesh' of Aanbukhaireni Rural Municipality-2, in Tanahun district.

According to Police, Magar enticed 20 persons including Dinesh Koirala to pay Rs 1,640,000 by offering a week's training at the Dream Developers Trademart Pvt Ltd in Gorakhpur, a city in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. Magar defrauded them in association with the company's manager Kaji Gurung and others.

Police revealed that the racketeers were active in defrauding the Nepalis of huge sum of money via social networking by promising to offer big payment if each one could introduce five other members into the network business.

Magar was arrested and handed over to the Metropolitan Crime Division, Teku in Kathmandu for further investigation into the case.

Meanwhile, the search is on for others involved in the illegal operation of network business, police informed.
