New constitution within two weeks, says Bhandari
Ramechhap, August 15
CPN-UML Vice-chairperson Bidhya Devi Bhandari today said the new constitution would be promulgated within two weeks.
Addressing a mass meeting organised by UML in Manthali, in Ramechhap today, Bhandari said the six provinces were federated after discussing people’s feedback on the constitution draft.
She clarified that there was no possibility of change in the draft statute. “The Constituent Assembly has forwarded the concept of six provinces with boundaries,” she informed.
Bhandari held that there was no point in protesting against the six provinces. “The six provinces have included mountains, hills, and the Tarai,” she added.
She said the present boundaries were made as per public pressure to not split the community as the local residents have been living jointly in the same locality for long.
She claimed that more than six provinces would not yield better results for the country.
“The nation cannot be economically viable if there are more than six provinces,” she reasoned.
She informed that the CA was preparing the final draft of the new constitution.
“The statute will not be issued as per the wish of Nepali Congress, CPN-UML, UCPN-Maoist, Madhes-based parties or any other party,” she said.
Bhandari claimed that the new constitution would be issued as per the feelings of the poor, Dalits, women, and disabled, among other marginalised communities.
