New local bodies operational in Province 1

Bhojpur, March 15

The local levels in Sankhuwasabha and Bhojpur districts of Province 1 came into operation from today.

Those bodies came into effect only from today though the government had announced it would bring all the new bodies into operation from Friday, as the chiefs of the rural municipalities and municipalities were yet to be appointed. There are five rural municipalities and the same number of municipalities in Sankhuwasabha.

The incumbent chiefs have been entrusted with responsibilities in Khandbari, Chainpur and Madi municipalities, whereas Diwash Karki has been appointed chief executive of Dharma Devi Municipality and Prem Bahadur Shrestha of Panchkhapan Municipality respectively.

Likewise, Mahendra Parajuli has been appointed chief executive at Bhotkhola Rural Municipality, Jun Kumar Rai at Makalu Rural Municipality, Chet Nath Adhikari at Chichila Rural Municipality and Chandra Bahadur Gurung at Sabhapokhari Rural Municipality while Moti Lal Basnet has been appointed acting chief executive of Silingchung Rural Municipality.

Meanwhile, all the local levels came into operation after filling the post of chief executives in the rural municipalities and municipalities as per the new structure in Bhojpur from today. The district has been divided into two municipalities and seven rural municipalities while the District Development Committee has been transformed into District Coordination Committee. “Executive chiefs of all the local levels have been deployed to their work place after their appointment,” informed District Coordination Committee Bhojpur.

According to sources, Krishna Bahadur Karki has been given the responsibility of chief executive at Bhojpur Municipality and Harsha Bahadur Thapa at Shadananda Municipality.

Likewise, Sagar Mani Poudel and Lekh Raj Timsina have been appointed chief executives of Salpa Silichung and Arun rural municipalities respectively; while Salik Ram Koirala has been assigned the responsibility at Pauwadung Rural Municipality. In addition, Suresh Kumar Dhungel, Prem Kumar Shakya and Ganesh Pradhan have been given the responsibility of Tyamke, Ram Prasad Rai and  Hatuwagadhi rural municipalities respectively.
