New mothers deprived of maternity allowance in Bajura

Most of the new mothers in Bajura have not received the maternity allowance, which the government offers through health facilities.

Health facilities provide Rs 3,000 as maternity allowance, Rs 800 for regular pregnancy test and warm clothes to a new born baby. But most of the new mothers in Bajura are deprived of the state facility after the central government did not release the budget for the same on time. The government has doubled the allowance by from the current fiscal.

As many as 38 new mothers of Tribeni Municipality have not got the maternity allowance from Chhatahara Health Post. “Decision was made, but not implemented,” said auxiliary mid-wife Sumitra Padhaya of the health post. She said no new mothers had received the allowance in past six months. Health Coordinator in Tribeni Municipality Chiranjibi Shah said no service seekers had received the amount in the district.

Similarly, as many as 22 new mothers of Budinanda Municipality are also deprived of the state facility after the authority concerned did not release the amount. Auxiliary Mid-wife Madhu Shrestha at Pandusain Health Post said the new mothers had complained after they were deprived of the facility. She said they were not able to distribute the allowance as the municipality failed to release the amount.

Meanwhile, Chief at District Health Office, Bajura, Dr Rup Chandra BK  said the problem occurred after due to federal government.
