New statute a model document: Minister Rai

Bhojpur, December 5

Information and Communications Minister Sherdhan Rai today said the new constitution was a model document in the world as it was ratified by 90 per cent of the members of the statute-making body.

Speaking at a function organised by Local Peace Committee in Ghoretar of Bhojpur, Minister Rai said, “As the charter was signed by 90 per cent of the members of the Constituent Assembly, it is a model statute and the international community has duly recognised it.”

“The constitution is a document of compromise and has addressed the issues raised by movements launched in the country at different times since the fifties. If any community feels that its concerns have been ignored, the constitution has the provision of amendments,” said Rai, who is also the government spokesperson.

He also said that implementation of constitution was the top priority of the government.

Further dwelling on the governments’ initiatives to end the Tarai agitation and the blockade at border points, he said, “The government is serious about both the Madhes agitation and the blockade, so is holding talks with India and the agitating Madhesi parties,” said Rai.
