RAJBIRAJ: A newborn child was found dead near the Gaidi Bridge in Krishna Sawaran Rural Municipality-2 of Saptari on Monday.

According to the Rupani-based Area Police Office, Saraswati Devi Saha of Rupani Rural Municipality-6 abandoned the baby in the river, whom she had given birth last night.

Locals had informed the police after sighting the child's body in the river. Police said an investigation is on.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Yadav Raj Upreti said it was confirmed that Saha had given birth to a baby in local health post at around 12:00 am yesterday and returned home with baby.

Meanwhile, the body of the deceased baby has been sent to the Gajendra Narayan Singh Sagarmatha Zonal Hospital for the postmortem, the DSP informed.

Similarly, a body of a child was found floating in the Koshi River in Tilathi Koiladi Rural Municipality-6 in Saptari district.

District Police Office, Saptari, identified the body of local eight-year-old Kamal Sada.

The investigations into both cases are underway, said police.
