KATHMANDU: Around a dozen civic organisations expressed their heartfelt condolence over the demise of former Prime Minister and Nepali Congress president Girija Prasad Koirala today. Issuing a joint statement, the 10 major federations have said that the democratic movement and the ongoing peace process have suffered an irreparable loss and the nation has lost a democratic superstar.

The apex bodies of NGOs stated that there is no alternative to national consensus and cooperation initiated by late Koirala. “We civic organisations believe that leading the peace process to a logical end and drafting constitution creating an environment of confidence among the parties would be a true tribute to Koirala,” stated the release.

Those signing the release include NGO Federation, National Federation of Disables, Nepal Federation of Indigenous Nationalities, Human Rights Joint Forum, Community Forest Consumers’ Federation, Human Rights Alliance, Dalit NGO Federation and Development Journalists Forum among others.
