Human rights watchdog to keep offices open through Dashain holidays

KATHMANDU, SEPTEMBER 28

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has urged the government to tighten public service delivery and reinforce peace and security during the upcoming Dashain, Tihar, and Chhath festivals, when crowds, price hikes, black-market activity, and crime typically rise.

In a statement, NHRC spokesperson Dr. Tika Ram Pokharel stressed that uninterrupted access to essential services and effective law enforcement are critical to protecting citizens' rights throughout the festive season.

To ensure prompt response to any human-rights violations, the commission said its central, provincial, and branch offices will remain open even during public holidays, operating daily from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. for receiving complaints and conducting urgent monitoring.

The NHRC appealed to all relevant agencies to support government measures aimed at maintaining order and safeguarding public welfare during Nepal's busiest festival period.
