NHRC poser to govt on withdrawal of cases
Kathmandu, December 25:
The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) is all set to seek explanation from the government as to why it gave amnesty to several inmates, who had cases pending in the courts.
“The Commission has concluded that it needs to take explanation from the government with regard to some specific cases,” said Gauri Pradhan, spokesperson of the NHRC.
The Commission has started looking into the controversial cabinet decision of withdrawing cases against 349 inmates and is collecting information about the cases related to human rights, according to Pradhan.
“The Commission is probing the cases involved in some major incidents, in which dozens of people were killed in Kapilvastu, Nepalgunj, Dang, Surkhet and Solukhumbu,” Pradhan said. “The Commission is concerned about the withdrawal of cases related to these incidents.”
