NHRC team takes stock of security situation in Rautahat

RAUTAHAT: A team of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has started taking stock of security situation of bandh-hit Gaur of Rautahat and investigating into the murder of a local resident in police firing during the agitation.

As part of the purpose, the team including Subarna Karmacharya, Acting Chief of the Regional Office of the NHRC in Janakpur launched a field visit and inquired about the security situation.

According to human rights activist Bipin Gautam, the team also met Chief District Officer, security personnel, cadres and leaders of bandh organisers and kin of the deceased.

He said the team also met office bearers of district branch of the Federation of Nepalese Journalists and civil society leaders and held discussions on the latest updates of the security situation of the area.

Buddhi Raj Sahani, a member of the monitoring committee of the NHRC said that they are looking into the killing of the local resident and other security situation of the bandh-hit areas.

Meanwhile, the agitators have demanded declaring the deceased a martyr and providing compensation to the family of the deceased among others.

Also, the bandh continued to cripple normal life in the district as the agitation entered 14th day today.
