NHRC team to probe Dolakha incident

Kathmandu, July 7:
A National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) team today left for Dolakha to investigate the incident in Bhirpani where a landmine hit a public bus. The team will gather on-the-spot information on the explosion which occurred in a forest area between Gopi river and Kalidaha, said an NHRC statement. The rights body has also started investigation into another incident of landmine explosion on July 4. Two civilians were critically injured when a public bus travelling to Manthali of Ramechhap district was blown up. The NHRC team will also probe cases of rights violations and the overall human rights situation in Ramechhap and Dolakha, the statement said. Meanwhile, Orest Gossard, representative of the United Nations’ Office of the High Commission in Geneva, and Ian Martin, chief of the UNOHR in Nepal, met NHRC chairman Nain Bahadur Khatri and NHRC officials yesterday. The duo urged the NHRC to become more active in protecting human rights. They further committed to provide assistance to the NHRC.
