NHRC urges Maoists to stop abductions

Kathmandu, November 11:

Responding to people’s complaints, the National Human Rights Commission has called on the Maoists to end their violent activities that are against the spirit of humanitarian laws. It also urged the Maoists to immediately stop abduction and release those in their captivity.

The Maoists issued summons to twelve employees and members of Public Awareness Savings and Credit Cooperatives of Kavre VDC of Dolakha district on October 26. Those summoned are Yagyaraj Dunghel, Taraprasad Pant, Bhimprasad Dahal, Pushkar Kumar Dahal, Prem Kumari Chaulangai, Pushpa Bhattarai, Raghunath Dahal, Rudra Prasad Dahal, Parshuram Chaulagain, Tika Prasad Dahal, Kumar Chaulagain and Jivan Dahal. The Maoists have directed them to be present within 30 days, warning them of dire consequences if they failed to show up.

Likewise, the Maoists threatened the management of Hanumanteshwor Higher Secondary School of Kavre VDC, Dolakha district.

Similarly, the Maoists reportedly abducted Royal Nepal Army personnel Navaraj Adhikari of Bara district and Amar Shah of Surkhet on October 5.
