NHRC wants action against Kapilvastu gang rape perpetrators

KATHMANDU: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has deployed a  team to inspect a gang rape of a speech-impaired woman reported from Kapilvastu district.

Expressing its deep concerns over the case, the NHRC said the team was deployed from its regional office in Butwal.

The constitutional human rights watchdog has demanded prompt action against the perpetrators, who are reported to be Armed Police Force personnel, as the National Federation of Deaf Nepal demanded in a memorandum it submitted to the Commission.

The Commission also urged the government to provide free treatment to the victim.

The NHRC said they have written to the Office of the Attorney General, Nepal Police headquarters and the Armed Police Force headquarters seeking a detail investigation into the case.
